Green Grass Music typically offers four performance opportunities throughout the year, ranging from informal, kid-only parties to playing background music at social gatherings to formal recitals.

Melissa Barker is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music and a member of Oregon Music Teachers Association. She offers involvement in the annual OMTA Syllabus program for advanced students.

Green Grass Music strives to develop well-rounded musicians, teaching more than simply note-reading, by incorporating:

  • the use of manipulatives and movement to engage the student in more active learning
  • ear training
  • harmonization (playing by ear)
  • rhythm
  • sight-reading
  • technical/theory skills (scales, arpeggios, chords, etc.)
  • composition and improvisation
  • music history
  • playing fun and appropriate literature
